WHAT TO EXPECT

A more competitive environment offers professional coaching, regular practice, stronger opponents, and committed teammates. For age groups 8U through 17U, here’s how joining Travelers can fit into your player’s next step.

WHEN SHOULD WE JOIN?

8U and 9U are great ages to move from recreational baseball into select baseball. Players can also join later. The right time is when your player wants to learn, enjoys competing, and your family is ready for the commitment.

WHEN AND WHERE ARE PRACTICES?

We practice weekly, outdoors at local high school baseball and softball fields in Dallas. Days and times depend on field and team availability. Your coach will confirm the schedule and locations.

WHAT DOES THE TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE?

Our schedule includes a minimum of four weekend events in the fall and eight in the spring, played throughout the DFW metroplex and surrounding communities. Once the team is formed, we build a schedule suited to its level of competition and development goals. We participate in Perfect Game, NCS, and PAC Sports events. Your coach will share event dates, locations, game times, and arrival details through team communication.

HOW DO WE ORDER UNIFORMS?

During registration, you’ll receive an ordering link from TCA, our uniform provider. You can also access the store through Team Shop on our website. Your coach will share which uniform to wear for each game.

HOW DO WE COMMUNICATE WITH THE TEAM AND COACH?

SportsEngine and team communication keep families informed about schedules, practice changes, tournaments, and weather updates. Save your head coach’s contact information and ask for your team’s GameChanger link.

Questions are welcome. Start with your head coach and focus on your player’s goals and next steps. For questions about playing time, positions, or batting order, schedule a conversation on Monday after a tournament. We also encourage players to ask their coaches directly for feedback.

HOW DO TRYOUTS WORK?

New and returning players are evaluated from season to season. Coaches consider skill level, positional needs, and readiness for the team’s level of competition. Returning teams may have roster spots available, and players may also be considered for new teams formed around skill level and position.

You must register to attend a tryout. Registration provides the current age groups, dates, locations, and event details. If you have questions about availability or where your player might fit, send us an inquiry.

HOW DO COACHES BUILD CONFIDENCE AND HANDLE STRUGGLES?

Slumps happen. Coaches help players understand adjustments, recognize progress, and focus on what they can control: effort, attitude, and preparation.

HOW ARE POSITIONS, LINEUPS, AND OPPORTUNITIES DECIDED?

Roles can change as players grow. Learning multiple positions helps them become more complete athletes. Coaches consider offensive consistency, the ability to reach base, speed, game situations, and the needs of the team. Effort, attendance, preparation, and focus also influence opportunities.

A position or spot in the batting order does not define a player’s value. Coaches balance individual development with the needs of the whole team. Ask what your player can work on and what the coach is working toward.

HOW DO YOU APPROACH PITCHING DEVELOPMENT?

We prioritize long term development and arm health by managing workloads intentionally. Players also improve through bullpens, mechanical work, and focused throwing sessions. Tournament innings are one part of the process. Ask your coach about your player’s throwing plan.

WHAT SHOULD FAMILIES EXPECT ON GAME DAY?

Arrive at least 45 minutes before first pitch, or earlier if your coach requests it, fully dressed and ready to warm up. Bring water and snacks for between games. Share lateness, absences, or early departures as soon as possible.

Players should listen, hustle, and support their teammates. Dugouts and pregame routines are for players and coaches, with parents welcome to help if a player is injured. Cheer from the stands, let coaches handle instruction, and show respect for teammates, opponents, and umpires.

DO YOU ENCOURAGE PLAYERS TO PLAY MULTIPLE SPORTS?

Yes. We promote and encourage multiple sports. We want players to enjoy being athletes and have experiences beyond baseball. Share other sports schedules and potential conflicts with your coach early so we can plan together.
